About the event
Whittling or knife carving, is an accessible and rewarding introduction to traditional woodworking. In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn how to work safely and effectively with simple hand tools while exploring the characteristics of different wood types, particularly green (unseasoned) wood.
Green wood is softer and easier to shape, making it ideal for hand tool techniques. Guided by Colin, participants will learn fundamental axe and knife carving skills, including safe tool use, understanding wood grain, and basic shaping methods. Each participant will apply these skills to craft their own wooden spatula from locally sourced, freshly cut wood.
As the class takes place in a workshop environment, sturdy footwear is required (steel toe cap boots recommended). Open-toed or low-cut footwear is not suitable. Long hair should be tied back and jewellery removed for safety.
All tools and materials are supplied.
Participants must be aged 16 or over to attend.
