About the event

This introductory course guides participants in developing confidence and foundational skills with a variety of traditional hand tools and devices - including axes, carving knives, saws, drawknives, and the green woodworker’s good friend, the shave horse.
 
By the end of the day, participants will leave with a mallet and chopping block - essential additions to any green woodworker’s workshop. Their creation also importantly provides the opportunity to explore a wide range of hand tools and core skills.


This course is ideal for complete beginners looking to gain practical experience, develop essential techniques, and build confidence. It’s the perfect gateway into the world of green woodworking and a strong foundation for more intermediate and advanced courses to come.


As the class takes place in a workshop environment, sturdy footwear is required (steel toe cap boots recommended). Open-toed or low-cut footwear is not suitable. Long hair should be tied back and jewellery…
